Who are we?

The Melbourne Chinese Orchestra （MCO） is a non-profit Chinese orchestra serving the local community. Its predecessor was the Melbourne River Chinese Music Society, which was established in July 2011. Its members are Chinese music enthusiasts and professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Since the establishment of the orchestra, we have always adhered to the principle of promoting the unique and excellent traditional culture of the Chinese, with the aim of integrating into the multicultural community. Under the leadership of the orchestra council and the efforts of all members, through the performance combining traditional Chinese instruments, Western instruments, we have successively arranged and performed dozens of Chinese and foreign pieces of music, bringing numerous audiences a series of music and Western instruments, we have successively rehearsed and performed dozens of Chinese and foreign pieces of music, bringing numerous audiences a series of musical feasts, and making positive efforts to promote the development of Australia's multicultural.

As a member of the diverse cultural family of Australia, the orchestra frequently participates in large-scale events organized by various communities and groups. It also extends sincere greetings to Chinese compatriots during festivals such as the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival. For instance, our orchestra was invited to perform at the Chinese Spring Festival event in the Ballarat Gold Mining Area every year, which has become an important part of the local tourism industry. Additionally, the orchestra regularly conducts cultural exchanges and performances in nursing homes, Buddhist associations, and Mazu culture associations and other communities, bringing great joy, comfort, and satisfaction to the audience.

Particularly exciting is that this year our orchestra joined forces with the New Zealand Baihua Art Troupe to establish the "Australia and New Zealand Chinese Baihua Art Troupe," which successfully held its inaugural performance at the Whitehorse Town Hall on February 22, 2025, receiving enthusiastic acclaim from the audience. That same year, five performers from our orchestra were invited to participate in the founding ceremony of the "Australian Chinese Orchestra," which debuted at the Sydney Opera House, a resounding success.

Looking back, the MCO's growth and development have been blessed with the support and generosity of the government, the community, and manu businesses, organizations, and individuals. We will always remember this and remain deeply grateful! Looking forward to the future, we will continue to forge ahead, giving back to society and our audiences with even more exciting programs and exquisite performances, and making further contributions to the development of a diverse community.

After 14 years of continuous efforts, all members have been united to ensure smooth progress of all work and the orchestra is thriving. We believe that the future prospects will be even brighter and better. In the mean time, MCO is open to all music lovers and welcomes talented performers to join us at any time!

墨尔本中华乐团是一个服务于当地社区民众的非盈利华人乐团。其前身是成立于2011年7月的墨尔本江河中乐社。它的成员来自不同背景的华人音乐爱好者和专业人士。

自建团以来，我们始终坚持弘扬中华民族独具的、优秀传统文化为宗旨，以融入多元文化大家庭为目的。在乐团理事会的带领下和全体团员的努力下，用民族乐器、西洋乐器以及中西乐器相结合的演奏方式，先后编排和演出了几十首中外曲目，给广大观众带来了一次次的音乐盛筵，为促进澳洲多元文化的发展做出了积极努力。

乐团作为澳洲多元文化大家庭的一员，经常参加不同社区和团体组织的大型活动的演出。同时也在中国的春节、端午节和中秋节等节日向华人同胞致以真挚的问候。例如，我们乐团每年受邀参加巴拉瑞特金矿区的中国春节演出，这已成为当地旅游业的重要组成部分。此外，乐团常年去养老院、佛教协会和妈祖文化协会等社团进行文化交流和演出，给观众带去了极大的快乐、慰籍和满足。

特别令人振奋的是，今年我们乐团与新西兰百花艺术团携手成立了“澳新中华百花艺术团”，并于2025年2月22日在白马市市政厅成功举办了首场演出，受到了广大观众的热烈好评。同年，我们乐团的五位演奏员应邀参加了“澳大利亚华乐团”的成立活动，并在悉尼歌剧院进行了首场演出，取得了圆满成功。

回首过去，中华乐团的成长与发展，得到了来自政府、社区、以及众多企业、组织和个人的厚爱与支持，对此我们将铭记于心并深怀感激！ 展望未来，我们将继续砥砺前行，用更加精彩的节目、更加精湛的演出来回馈社会，回报广大观众！ 为社区多元文化建设做出更多贡献！

经过14年的不断努力，全体团员团结一致, 使得各项工作进展顺利，乐团蒸蒸日上，相信未来前景会更加灿烂美好。同时，我们乐团对广大音乐爱好者敞开大门，随时欢迎有一定实力的演奏人员加盟我们的队伍！
